That about sums up my feelings toward this site at the moment.  It shall possibly become of use once my album is done, but for now, it lays wasted. If anyone actually checks back here occasionally to see if I’ve posted, please comment so I know whether it’s worth my time to continue posting occasionally. I’m fairly sure most of the people who would be interested in seeing me post here interact with me on facebook a fair bit as it is.

Just in case any of you get a blank page where your Wordpress install should be, check the error page. If it contains “WordPress database error MySQL server has gone away for query” then click here and dont panic

Chances are you need to change the timeout in that file by uncommenting the line with =600 in it.  Apparently Wordpress automatic updates can crash your site whilst trying to update the database because of a misconfigured timeout! Yay!

Just a quick update, I added some of my noise tracks to the Audio section. Enjoy! (And beware speaker/ear damage)

Decided to be impatient. Even though I’m not 100% done setting up the theme for the forums, I’ve linked to them on the main page here. Kinda sparse post-wise, but we’ll work on that, won’t we?

What was I thinking?!?!?! Now I remember why I was avoiding phpBB! I installed it last night and instantaneously started to have issues with it. It wouldn’t let me log into the admin control panel, ffs! I then looked into the mods available for phpBB, and they pale in comparison to the ones the SMF community has produced. That aside, phpBB is, and will always be, spambait.

To be perfectly honest, my initial decision to switch to phpBB was based mostly around the excellent Wordpress integration mod that I was looking into yesterday… but quite honestly, my quick SMF hack seems to be working nicely for my needs. Once SMF2 gets out of Release Candidate status, I’m sure someone will hack together an excellent wordpress integration mod.

So I initially decided to install Simple Machines Forums 2.0… for who knows what reason really… mainly because http://www.forummatrix.org/ shows it having more features than phpBB. That, and phpBB has known to be insecure as fuck.

But it just occurred to me: SMF is too early in the free software maturity cycle to really provide me with all the cool shit I want. phpBB, on the other hand, has been around long enough to have excellent integration with almost every blog out there including wordpress… it’s got more themes than you can shake a stick at (though I’ll probably end up modding this theme to work with it) … and it’s got an amazing number of plugin mods.

So that’s it. Common sense has struck me right in the forehead. phpBB it is.

That said, I just noticed wordpress is missing a much needed emoticon button.

Just to let you guys (whoever’s spying on me I guess) know, I have installed OpenID login support in the yet unavailable forums. I’m still trying to find a nice unobtrusive way to integrate the forum Logins with WordPress commenting, but that’s fairly low on my list of priorities. For the time being, you can just suck it up and use your email as credentials :p

Finally got bytesmasher.com registered, after all these years…… yay!

I’m currently still throwing things together, but when I’m done, this website will serve many purposes:

1. It will be the online home of my music project, under the name BYTE-Smasher
2. It will be my…… blog?
3. It will act as a portfolio of all the not-so-zany programming, multimedia, writing, and photography related stuff I’ve done over the years, recently, and in the future
4. It will be the reincarnation of my rantalicious vanity forums … and live chat?
5. It will serve as a place for me to post random internet memes for the hell of it…… See #3
